Rivers State came to existence on 27th November when the then regime of General Yakubu Gowon created it from the former Eastern Region. Port-Harcourt Local Government Area is headquartered in the capital city of the state and the seat of the local government council comprises of Amadi, Abuloma, Diobu, Elekahia, Mgbundukwu, Npkolu, Oroworukwo, Ochri, Rumukalagbo district and others.
