How many members in thin lizzy
The band was constantly gigging and started to build a reputation as a live act, but it was slow going, with the band learning as they went. Explained Eric, "The Slade tour helped us a lot. Chas Chandler came up and told us he dug the band but that our clothes weren't colourful enough, so we started to get into that end of things. After a while the shape throwing became automatic and the music was all we worried about.
It was late and the band were still growing their reputation when they released their second album, Shades of A Blue Orphanage , which was rushed. Said Eric, "we really weren't that happy with it. Then at a rehearsal one day we were having a break for a cuppa tea and Phil started to play Whiskey In The Jar on a Stratocaster and singing into the mic.
Brian and I were just sitting there bored. Ten minutes later Phil was still going on with this thing, so we joined in. Whiskey in the Jar became a multi national hit for the band and put them on the musical map. At the time, they were still playing Irish ballrooms and hotels. In , the band completed their album, Vagabonds of the Western World , on which they included Jan Schelhaus on keyboards for several of the tracks, as well as using Radio Luxembourg's Kid Jensen for narration on Hero and the Madman.
It was announced on February 14th that Gary Moore would be his replacement. The truth of the story came out later that Eric had become uninterested in the band's new "hit single" image. He had gotten drunk earlier in the day and in the middle of the show, he recounted, "I threw my guitar in the air, kicked over my amps and walked off the stage and never came back.
Eric Bell had left the band at the beginning of and had been temporarily replaced by Gary Moore for the band's first tour in However, they decided to part company in May as Gary didn't seem too "into" Lizzy at the time. They hired two guitarists to replace Gary, but in Phil's words, they were "really crap. I can't remember his last name. At that point, we feel Thin Lizzy was really no longer an "Irish" band as they were headquartered in London and featured two non-Irish guitarists.
Although their world wide fame took off in the mid 's with the release of The Boys Are Back In Town in , it is really beyond the scope of our website to do justice to the band's history after they broke in the United States and across the rest of the world.
Needless to say, Thin Lizzy's history as part of the Irish ballroom scene led the way for more Irish acts to come in the years that followed. Audio Clips Purposely selected from Lizzy's early recordings. Where Are They Now? The Story Obviously, much has been written about the legendary history of Thin Lizzy, who, along with U2, Van Morrison and Rory Gallagher are among the most successful Irish rock acts ever.

Because of this last minute ditching of the new version of "Wild One", the song did not appear on the album at all despite being in the name and having lyrics from it quoted on the back of the album cover.
In latter-day guitarist of Thin Lizzy, John Sykes decided to try and re-assemble Thin Lizzy, presenting the band as a tribute to Phil Lynott's life and work. He decided to take on the role of lead vocals himself in the absence of Lynott, and persuaded Brian Downey and Scott Gorham to return to the fold.
To complete the lineup, Marco Mendoza who played with Sykes in Blue Murder from filled Lynott's shoes playing bass. Darren Wharton, who had been the band's only official keyboardist, also joined. Lizzy itself had only had a keyboardist as an official member from , but it added to the new Thin Lizzy's credibility nontheless.
In , Tommy Aldridge filled in on drums when Brian Downey was unable to. He became a full fledged member when Downey left shortly, feeling the group was "too disorganised". This lineup remained stable through to , when the group recorded a live album, One Night Only. The band went on hiatus from until , with Sykes releasing two solo albums in the gap in between he would release one more in Once again in , Thin Lizzy returned. This lineup proved temporary however, with Mendoza returning in , and Aldridge returning in There are however, no plans for a new album though the band continues to tour.
There are at least three versions of the origin of the name Thin Lizzy. Since there do not appear to be any recorded interviews with members of the band confirming any of them, they must remain as speculation.
The most popular version describes how the band's lead guitarist Eric Bell, who was a fan of John Mayall 's Bluesbreakers , bought a copy of Dandy comic [1] after seeing Eric Clapton depicted reading a copy of its sister publication The Beano on the cover of the album Bluesbreakers with Eric Clapton. Bell suggested Tin Lizzie , the name of a robot character from the comic, which became Thin Lizzy a sly nod to the Dublin accent in which "Thin" is pronounced "Tin".
A second version is that the band name was taken from the nickname for the Model T Ford. A third version is suggested by Jim Fitzpatrick , who was a friend of Phil Lynott and who produced artwork for the band. On his web site, Fitzpatrick suggests that Phil Lynott was inspired to name the band after a girl he met, whose name was Liz Igoe, and that he added the Thin because it "scanned better".
All of this lineup played together from , but with the addition of a keyboard player. The vinyl version of the album is quite rare. Their chart peak positions are shown for the following singles in the following territories.

In Philomena revealed that she had a Philomena's second son and daughter that she gave up for adoption - and why she kept them secret for 50 years. Check out this interesting anecdote from author Alan Byrne. Apparently discussions are underway to see if it will be possible to officially release these to fans.
Philip Lynott bass and vocals was also invited to join. Very quickly the hotel became synonymous with celebrities and performers, and it quickly got a reputation as the place to go when visiting Manchester.
After the release of one ignored Parlophone single Lynott's The Farmer , , Wrixon left the group. The trio then signed with Decca and produced two albums, the first, Thin Lizzy , was released in About the time the album hit the record stores, the boys were busy recording a 4 song EP, often referred to as New Day and featuring original material. It was apparently released only in England, in August , but never made it into the Top Following the almost un-noticed release of their second album Shades Of A Blue Orphanage in , they recorded and released their now classic hit single Whiskey in the Jar their rocked-up version of a traditional Irish folk tune which topped the Irish charts and reached the number 6 spot in England, despite being intended as the B-side of the single.

From time to time rumours have been circulating about a possible Ritchie Blackmore, Ian Paice and Phil Lynott project, often referred to as Baby Face, and speculation as to whether any recordings from those sessions exist.
New Spotlight Magazine, 15th January had this teaser I have no idea of how many or what happened to the tracks. It has been suggested that perhaps this happened November 22nd There is some info on this at the Highway Star web site. He confirmed that they had made some demos, and they named themselves BABY FACE, but after a couple of days playing together at someone's home, they decided not to work together, because they didn't like the results.
He also mentioned that he did not feel the demo's were high enough quality to ever release. Rodgers left the project even before it had begun. There are recordings with this line-up with Lynott handling vocals , but they are being held by the 1st management. To complete what the guitarist intended as a very basic power trio, Blackmore invited along Phil Lynott, bassist with the then little-known but fast-rising Thin Lizzy.
It would be several months before the Irish hard rockers scored their first hit single, with a stunning rearrangement of the traditional "Whiskey In The Jar", but, with two highly acclaimed albums already behind them, Thin Lizzy were certainly attracting attention, and Blackmore was as enthused as anybody. Catching the band in concert during the summer [Blackmore] had earmarked Lynott for some future project, long before he decided on the project itself. Of course, Blackmore's interest did not at all please Thin Lizzy's manager, Chris O'Donnell, all the more so since he was painfully aware of how difficult it was to keep Lynott's feet firmly on the ground.
We would be a trio. We [would] have made a few albums. That was in I said to Ian, 'Well, that was it. I'm leaving'. And he said he would stay with me and asked me if it was a wise decision. As it transpired, Babyface was doomed to obscurity. Although Lynott later recalled recording as many as five songs with Blackmore and Paice, Blackmore remembered no more than a couple including a version of Johnny Winter's "Dying To Live" , then damned them with faint praise: "They were good, but it may have been a bit near Hendrix.
I was playing that way and Phil was singing that way". In fact, Roy Davis is adamant that "the only known reels of master tape found archived thus far This was a little strange, as Ritchie and Paicey were not exactly the practising types.
Imagine my surprise when Phil Lynott of Thin Lizzy appeared in the studio too. The three of them were there for a couple of nights. I had to load in and out each day, as the studio had not been block booked, only by the session.
It is common belief that the resulting tapes were not good and only half finished, lying in a long forgotten vault.
Not true, I think John Coletta or Tony Edwards had them and they were finished, all four songs were great. Perhaps they will surface one day? There was an actual name given to this little 'band' and it was called 'Baby Face'.
In the newspaper account of "Lizzy Split Denied" it is interesting to note the phrase "Lynott has no plans to record with Blackmore again", which would seem to confirm that he had indeed recorded with him previously. A few months of touring were enough for Gary and he too quit the band, apparently fearing for his health from the heavy drinking, according to comments during interviews. For an insight into Andy's time with the band be sure to check out jt's recent interview with Andy.
At this point Thin Lizzy was about to establish their now-famous twin lead guitar sound, with the addition of Brian Robbo Robertson guitar, from Glasgow and Scott Gorham guitar, from L.
Two albums followed, Night Life , and Fighting , but the twin guitar sound was still evolving. Seeing these very professional bands up-close was an important step in the maturing of Thin Lizzy and prepared them for what was to follow. The "big break" came in with the release of a new album Jailbreak and what is probably their best known single The Boys Are Back In Town. It was well received on both sides of the Atlantic, and this album still stands as one of their very best.
The next album Johnny The Fox , released in also was very successful on the UK charts, but the supporting tour which was to follow its release ran into difficulty when Robbo cut his hand allegedly in a bar room brawl and was told that he would never play again something which later proved untrue.
This was the first of 3 albums to be produced by Tony Visconti, and featured some session work by Robbo, who also later did "guest appearances" on the subsequent European tour , and then appeared once again as a member of the band on the Fall USA tour.
A double album Live And Dangerous , was released from their London and and possibly Toronto tour recordings. It has been alleged that there was significant "touch up" in the studio, but this claim has been disputed and if you've heard Thin Lizzy live, you'd know that doesn't seem likely.
A hit both sides of the Atlantic, this album captured more of the Thin Lizzy excitement than their previous studio albums. One rumour circulating, and attributed to an interview with one of the Lizzy guitarists, claims that there actually were no Toronto recordings used for the album, but for tax reasons it was beneficial to say there were.
At this point it's just a rumour. In the recording has been re-released in DVD format, containing 2 hours of bonus material. As he leaves, he wonders if he'll ever see his friend alive again. Definitely eerie to listen to all these years later. This would lead to further colaborative efforts with members of the Sex Pistols. This started as a joke after some difficulties Lynott had with the IRS because he hadn't paid his taxes in time. The idea was just playing small clubs and getting paid directly afterwards in cash.
The original idea was calling the band the Greedie Bastards, but later it was re-named the Greedies. A live album of the event was apparently later released.

Wild Horses was short-lived circa , releasing only two albums and one non-album release, all of which failed to grab the world's attention, but did garner them a cult following.
Years later, Moore said he had no regrets about walking out, "but maybe it was wrong the way I did it. I could've done it differently, I suppose. But I just had to leave. Thin Lizzy officially announced that Gary Moore was no longer in the band and that Ultravox's Midge Ure would be filling in on the remaining tour dates. Without a word, he packed his guitar, grabbed his bags and called a taxi and spent a couple of weeks at Glenn Hughes southern California home.
Upon returning to England later, Moore found the lock on his apartment changed Lizzy's management was paying the rent.
