I checked and it does have the big nose crank on it though. Thanks Mark. Does your engine also have a VIN number plate on the driver's side of the oil pan near to the transmision? That would tell you the year of that engine. At least there was a plate on my used engine. I called Mazda and they told me it came off a five speed, whew - didn't think to ask the seller when I bought it.
If you have a big crank, that's not a 90 engine. The original crank nose probably failed. The BP engine is on a flange at the rear right. Looking at the front of the engine the B6 engine has it on a flange at the rear left of the engine. Just been out to have a look at the exact place you say Ronime, but still can't see anything! It's properly well hidden!
