The Great Irish Songbook will take audiences on a historical journey of the great Irish writers and composers. It comes from being away and growing a greater knowledge and respect of all the talent we have," he says. As well as the story of Phil the Fluter's Ball, written by Percy French when he was an engineer in Cavan, Byrom finds the story of Christie Hennessy "the most heartbreaking" of all.

He released another album 21 years later and it outsold U2. He died shortly after as he developed lung cancer which largely resulted from working in the mines. I think it's important to acknowledge that," adds Byrom who has just celebrated his third wedding anniversary with Dominique.

The pair met when Byrom performed at age 21 on a cruise Coulter organised, but it wasn't until they met seven years later, again on a cruise, that they formed a relationship. As a father-in-law he cooks a good Sunday roast but he's also been very generous with his talents," Byrom says. It all came back then after rest and recuperation and therapy. You do question it regularly. Even if I wanted to change now, where would I go? What would I do?

Phil Coulter would approach Paul to join his venture Celtic Thunder. Although he was not keen initially, Phil got him interested and Paul would be part of the Irish vocal quintet before deciding to leave in This is a great way of getting your foot in the door in America.

So I always went in with the intention that it was for a short period of time to establish myself, build a following and then continue with the solo career. I felt it had brought me as far as it could bring me. It was affecting my personal life. I felt for me as a person, both personally and professionally, it was better that I moved on.

It was a great journey. I loved everything about it, I still have a great relationship with the lads, lifelong friendships with one or two of them. Since launching his new website, Paul has been delighted to see how many fans have been getting in touch from the UK.

The thought of trying to find the courage to date again or the thought of even getting married again is just odd.

Paul is currently living in a rented apartment and is keeping as busy as possible. He is also getting serious support from his CrossFit crew. He no longer wears his wedding band, although a small tan line is visible on his ring finger. But I used to watch it and wonder how these people were saying the things they did on camera.

But here I am now in the same space. I have changed. The support I got from my family and friends is immense and I am saying yes to everything.

If someone asked me if I wanted to watch a chess match I would agree because the thought of going home alone every evening is the worst. I think that anyone who is going through a marriage break-up would say the same.

All of a sudden, being alone is the hardest part. While the loss of his soulmate is tough enough to deal with, Paul also lost the professional connection to his father-in-law Phil. He concedes that losing his mentor hurts a great deal. We would have been 20 years working together and he was very good to me. I was very loyal to him and we got on very well.

That hurts a lot. No issues, nobody cheated on the other. I find myself thinking of them every day, the family, and I think of Dom every day still. I often dream about her. I will figure it out and it will all play out in the end for the better.

It would have been easy for Paul to stay in bed and not face his demons. He believes in talking and openly admits to seeking professional help when he felt overwhelmed at his personal situation.
